Arturo Delgado, Ed.D., was appointed Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools by the Board of Supervisors effective July 1, 2011, designating him as the top education leader of the nation's most populous and diverse county.

Previously superintendent of the San Bernardino City Unified School District, Dr. Delgado now serves as the chief executive officer for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and as secretary of the County Board of Education. In this post, Dr. Delgado provides general leadership and support to the superintendents and other top administrators of the county's school districts.

Before leaving San Bernardino, where he served with distinction for 14 years, Dr. Delgado was named to State Superintendent Tom Torlakson's Transition Advisory Team. This select group of education and business leaders developed the just-released "Blueprint for Great Schools,” offering a wide range of recommendations to improve public education in California.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Delgado began his career in education more than 31 years ago as a bilingual teacher in the Baldwin Park and Rowland Unified School Districts. He has received numerous awards for institutional and community leadership, including Educator of the Year by Hispanic Heritage Magazine.

ALAS not only serves as an acronym for the
Association of Latino Administrators & Superintendents
but was intentionally selected as a word in the Spanish
language that means wings. It is our hope that the
Association will generate wings to success for
Latino educators.
