Dr. Joseph G. Lopez received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas and has been in education for more than thirty years. Dr. Lopez has served in a variety of leadership positions ranging from high school biology teacher, dean of instruction, principal in elementary and secondary schools, superintendent, adjunct professor to an educational consultant. He has been recognized as a highly effective administrator and leader in school districts in and out of the state of Texas, ranging from small to large urban school districts with student populations from 12,000 to 140,000. Dr. Lopez has successfully worked with the Rockford Public Schools in Illinois; Corpus Christi Independent School District, San Felipe Del Rio School District, Dallas Independent School District, Garland Independent School District in Texas, and the El Paso Independent School District.

Whether as principal or superintendent, Dr. Lopez has provided strong leadership and believes in nurturing leadership among staff at all levels which has resulted in schools and districts receiving state recognition for student performance. Dr. Lopez has been recognized by his colleagues and community leaders by being awarded, "Administrator of the Year for DISD”; "Appreciation for Outstanding Service in the Mc Guaghey Area”; "Distinguished Service and Support for the Boys' Scouts of America”; "Special Achievement by the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce”; and "Special Honor and Recognition” by the United States Air Force at Laughlin Air Force Base.

Dr. Lopez currently serves as the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction in the El Paso Independent School District in El Paso, Texas, a district of 64,000 students. He has central office administrative oversight of numerous district programs, including Prek-12 Curriculum in all core areas; Advanced Academics, Early Childhood Education, Health & Wellness, English Language Learners Acquisition, Counseling & Guidance Services, State Grants, Instructional Materials, Library Media Services, Dual Credit, and the Texas Schools Virtual Network.

It is Dr. Lopez's belief that quality instructional programming in terms of highly competent staff, systems planning and design, use of data, accountability and the presence and practice of equity principles should always be the central focus of educators-- educators and all stakeholders can make a difference in crafting a world of schooling that offers the very best for all students.

Dr. Lopez enjoys reading, writing and collecting books on mythology around the world and his favorite book is Hero of a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell's. He plays the piano, composes music, writes poetry and has been a guest artist at various venues.
